A group of 31 divers from Southampton Diving Academy recently took part in the South East Regional Age Group competition. This event was a Tri Region Event which combined the South West, South East and London Regions. Carried out over two weekends at two venues, the team hosted the event at The Quays, Southampton on 12th May and then travelled to Plymouth on 18th May to compete in the new Life Centre. The team scooped in amazing 38 South East Region medals over the two weekends, 18 Gold, 13 silver and bronze medals.
With some outstanding diving and topping the medals table for the South East Region were two SDA divers. Taking Gold on all three boards, 1m springboard, 3m springboard and Platform, were Sophie Kinnard in the girls 12/13 years and Angus Kerr in the boys 11 & Under. Both dived remarkably well over both weekends and saw their hard work and determination in training pay off by winning the titles of South East Regional Champion on all three boards.
In the girls 11 & under age group Lauren Bailey won gold on the 1m & 3m springboards and silver on platform. Tia Pritchard and Astou Sidibe dived as guests in this age group with some fantastic results, Tia and Astou earned first and second places respectively in both the 1m and 3m springboards. For the boys of this age group, chasing team mate Angus Kerr to the podium was Cameron Gammage who won silver on both 1m and 3m springboards and Seb Sheath, diving as a guest, taking 3rd place in both springboard events.
Also deservedly winning two SER Regional Champion titles was Brandon Foster winning gold in both the 12/13 Boys 1m springboard and 3m Springboard events and just being denied his third gold on the last dive in the Platform event by team mate Elliot Moorhouse, who snatched the platform gold scoring a massive 52 points with his newly perfected inward 2 ½ somersaults from the 7.5m platform. Elliot also won silver in the 3m springboard event and bronze on the 1m springboard. The remainder of the medals in this age group were won by Robbie brodie, silver on 1m springboard and bronze on 3m springboard and William Osborne winning bronze in the platform event.
In the girls in the 12/13 Years age group where Sophie Kinnard took all three golds, Lucy Hawkins also put in some strong performances to take a medal on all three boards, the silver medal on both the 3m springboard and platform event and the bronze medal in the 1m springboard. Tanya Watson won silver on 1m springboard, Katie McArthur Bronze on platform and Ellen Morrow bronze on 3m springboard.
