Media Release for Peter Waterfield

Diving champions team up for the National Cup

OLYMPIC silver medallist diver Peter Waterfield and Commonwealth champion Tom Daley will be diving together at this year's British Gas National Cup in Southend next weekend (January 29 and 30, 2011).

Peter and Tom, who will be competing together for the first time ever, will be doing the 10 metre synchronised dive on Saturday, January 29.

Peter, who won the first medal for Great Britain at the 2004 Olympics, explained: "I am excited about competing in the British Gas National Cup. I won three gold medals at the event last year.

"I had an excellent year in 2010 after coming back to compete following surgery on my shoulder and I'm looking forward to working with Tom on our synchronised diving."

The 29-year-old won gold in the three metre synchronised dive event, 10 metre synchronised dive event and individual event at the British Gas National Cup 2010 in Sheffield.

After the pair's synchronised event on the Saturday, they will be battling for the individual title on the Sunday, in which Peter is defending champion.

Last year, Peter was awarded a score of 523.65 in the men's 10 metre individual event, beating Tom to first place by 40.05 points.

Peter added: "I am very keen to defend my title at this year's British Gas National Cup. This is the first crucial competition ahead of the London 2012 Olympics and it would be great to get off to a winning start."
