Diver retains

National Cup titles

 

OLYMPIC and Commonwealth diver Peter Waterfield retained his British Gas National Cup titles in Southend last weekend (January 29 and 30, 2011).

 

Peter, who is based in Southampton, won the men’s 10 metre synchronised dive with his partner Tom Daley on Saturday, January 29 and kept the men’s 10 metre individual dive title on Sunday, January 30.

 

The 29-year-old, who won the first medal for Great Britain at the 2004 Olympics, explained: “I am delighted with my result. To win two gold medals at the National Cup is a great start to 2011 and has filled me with confidence for the year ahead, and building towards the 2012 Olympics.”

 

Peter was awarded a score of 494.25 in the men’s 10 metre individual dive, beating Tom Daley to first place by 22 points.

 

In the men’s 10 metre synchronised dive, Peter and Tom scored 438.54 points. They won the event by 77.13 points.

 

Peter added: “This is the first big competition of the year so it is great to perform so well and retain my titles. I am looking forward to achieving more success in the run up to London 2012.”
