Media release for Southampton Diving Academy

Come Alive and Dive

Members of Southampton Diving Academy were victorious on their own turf when they took the team trophy at the recent "Come Alive and Dive" competition, held at their own pool.

Taking 13 medals between them, the young divers gave an encouraging performance, taking on three other clubs from across the South and winning the team event 307 points ahead of their nearest rivals Star Diving Club.

The event began with Max Brick from Southampton Diving Academy, a member of the GB dive team with London's 2012 Olympics in his sights, showing everyone how it's done with an armstand forward somersault dive off the 10m platform.

Of the 20 Southampton Diving Academy divers taking part, all of them improved on their last 6 dive competition scores a month ago, a great result for all which shows the continued improvement of the divers throughout the squad. Many of the divers were from the Talent Identification Programme and have only been diving for 6 months. The aim of the programme, which began in late summer last year, was to seek out youngsters to be fast tracked in the sport with a view to competing at national and international level, and they are getting off to a great start in their competitive careers.

Individual medalists for Southampton were: Gold - Dylan Lakeman-Brown (Boys 8/9), Scott Spearing (Boys 14/18), Jessie Creed (Girls 8/9), Madeline Angell (guest), Robyn Wooldridge (Girls 10/11), Silver - Tom Sheffield (Boys 8/9), Xander Cossley (guest), Jack Finlay (Boys 10/11), Jade Brindley (Girls 8/9), Rachel Hillier (guest) (Girls 12/13), Bronze - James Delve, (Boys 12/13), Maddy Davies (Girls 8/9), Caitlyn Crumpler (Girls 10/11).
