Media release for Southampton Diving Academy

GEORGIE WINGROVE

Thirteen year old springboard and highboard diver, Georgie Wingrove, has been selected to represent Great Britain at this year's Junior European Championships to be held the first week of July in Budapest, Hungary.

Georgie, who trains at the Quays Swimming and Diving Complex in Southampton, earned her place on the team by taking two silvers and one bronze medal at the National Junior Elite Competition held in Sheffield during the last week of May. She will be entered for both the 1 metre springboard and the platform events in Hungary.

Competing as a member of Southampton Diving Academy for the past seven years, Georgie has been coached primarily by Charly Tomkys, winner of the Sportscoach UK's Young Sports Coach of the year award for 2007. Recognising her potential as far back as 2007 following Georgie's receipt of the coveted Michael Austin Harlick award for the Outstanding Sportsperson of the year, Charly was quoted as saying: "Georgie has dived with me since she was six and is a very hard working and determined young diver. Her results have been impressive, both domestically and in club internationals and if she continues with her current progress I have no doubt that she will make her international debut in the next couple of years."

This season Georgie has transferred to Olympic coach, Lindsey Fraser, to take the next steps in her career. "I am delighted that Georgie has been selected to represent Great Britain for the first time," said Lindsey. "She is now reaping the benefits of the hard work and commitment of the last 7 years. This will be a great starting point for her international career and very valuable experience for what should be a great future in the sport."

Georgie, who attends Hampshire Collegiate School in Romsey won the coveted Michael Austin Harlick Outstanding Sportsperson Award in both 2007 and 2008. She thoroughly enjoys drama at school, and in her spare time enjoys playing golf.
