Media release for Southampton Diving Academy

HARROGATE

Fifteen of Southampton Diving Academy's least experienced divers travelled to Harrogate in Yorkshire to compete in the Hydro Novices and came back with two medals.

The competition was also an opportunity for divers to make the qualifying standard to travel to the National Skills Final to be held in Plymouth at the beginning of July. Clubs from all over the country had gathered to do battle and the standard was very high.

Both Liam Gibson (14) and Lewis Coleman-Smith (10) did well to take bronze medals in challenging fields. Diving consistently throughout the competition both showed that, despite their limited experience, they were capable of rising to the occasion and performing well under pressure.

Scott Palmer (9) and Jordan Gregson (10) also had good results, both managing to secure places in their final and finishing in 4th and 6th places respectively.

Twelve of the fifteen divers made their qualifying standard for the nationals.

Director of Coaching, Lindsey Fraser, was delighted with the outcome. "We have a very strong and promising group coming up through the ranks," she said. "The Academy should have a very competitive team down in Plymouth for the finals."
