WALLY CLARK MEMORIAL COMPETITION

Members of the "fast track" diving squad from Southampton Diving Academy travelled to London to compete in the second Wally Clark Memorial Diving Competition, hosted by Merton School of Trampolining and Diving.

The thirteen-strong team came back triumphant with 5 medals between them: a gold, a silver and 3 bronzes.

Most successful on the day was Max Cott (9) who rose to the occasion in an unfamiliar pool to give of his best. With an average of 5.6 points across all his dives he had an excellent competition, including a score of 8 from one of the judges for his plain header.

Hard on his heels was team mate Scott Palmer, also 9, who took the silver with a promising score of 146.15 points. His classy style stood him in good stead, earning him consistently high scores on six of his eight dives.

Amy Pritchard (8), Thomas Wrightson (9) and Jordan Gregson (10) all did well to take bronze medals in their respective events. All three were performing new dives from the 3m springboard, which they pulled off successfully to give them an advantage over the opposition.

Coach, Louise Alderman, was impressed with the divers' performances. "We had some excellent results today," she said. "It was good to see all the hard work of the last few months pay off as the divers showed that they could deliver under competition conditions what we have learnt in training. I am hoping that most of these divers will go on to qualify for National Skills Final in the summer and this was an important stepping stone in that preparation."
