Media release for Southampton Diving Academy

Canada Cup

Monique McCarroll (25), one of Southampton Diving Academy's Senior Elite squad, represented Great Britain in the Canada Cup in Montreal last week.

Joining a team of just 5 divers Monique, who is supported by Sunnyfields Organic Farm Shop, competed in both the individual and synchronized platform events against competitors from across the globe.

Despite struggling with a viral infection Monique qualified for the semi final of the individual event in 8th place, finishing 12th overall. Diving consistently throughout the competition she showed her greatest flair with her forward 3 ½ somersaults in the piked position. Her performance earned her a score which qualifies her for the Olympic trials.

In the 10m synchronized event, diving with partner Sarah Barrow from Plymouth, the pair performed well to take 6th with a score of 282 points. Again consistency contributed to their good result, although their optional dives were overall more successful than their required dives.

Coach, Steve Gladding, was happy with the outcome. "Monique came up with some nice, consistent performances, despite being a bit under the weather," he said. "She is building up a very good record on the international scene, which will stand her in good stead as she aims for the top with the Olympics coming up next year."
