Media release for Southampton Diving Academy

Eindhoven

Southampton diver Monique McCarroll (26), who trains with Southampton Diving Academy at the Quays Swimming and Diving Complex, travelled to Holland to compete in the Dutch Open Diving Competition on 24th November.

Returning with a silver medal from the event, which included competitors from a number of nations, including Holland, Italy and Romania, gave Monique a boost as she goes into the Olympic year.

The tough scoring competition was an opportunity for her to try out some new approaches and she used the occasion to work hard at making changes to sharpen her performance for the big events ahead.

Her next event is Camo in Montreal, Canada next week, where she will be up against many of the top divers in the world, before tackling national trials for the World Cup to be held in Manchester at the beginning of January.

Coach, Steve Gladding, a member of UK Sport's Elite coaching programme, was very happy with the result. "The main reason for entering the Dutch Open was to get extra practice at competing internationally, so I was delighted that we came back with a silver medal. Monique is in good form and looking forward to the challenges of the next few months."
