Media release for Peter Waterfield

Olympic diver's website goes live

OLYMPIC and Commonwealth diver Peter Waterfield from Southampton has launched a new website this month (April) to help people follow his progress in the run up to the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.

The site www.peterwaterfield.co.uk, which has been created by web design company ForestEdge from Somerset, features the latest news on the spring and highboard diver, biographical details and information on how to book him for appearances and events.

Peter said: "I hope as many people as possible will log on to my new site to find out what I am doing and to lend their support during any major competitions I take part in. Anyone who wants to find out more will also be able to email me from the site.

"As it is becoming increasingly difficult to find additional funding for my diving, I also hope as many potential sponsors as possible will have a look at the site and contact me if they wish to offer support."

ForestEdge won the contract to create Peter's website after it presented a comprehensive plan on how it thought the website should look, and what content was required, to the diver and his public relations company, Porcupine PR, which is based in Rooksbridge, Somerset.

The web design company's Business Development Manager, Sophie Hill explained: "We're delighted to be working with Peter Waterfield, who along with his partner, Leon Taylor, won the first medal at the last Olympics for Great Britain. He is a great athlete and going forward looks set to be representing the country at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, as well as the 2012 event in London."

At the FINA World Championships, which took place in Melbourne this March Peter qualified Britain's diving hopefuls for the 2008 Olympics by securing the first spot for the British diving team.

The 26-year-old won't know if he is actually competing at the 2008 event for the official British diving squad until nearer the time.

Peter said: "I was disappointed with my final dive, but considering the problems preparing for this meet, I am not dissatisfied with my result. I am really pleased to have qualified the first spot for the British diving team for the 2008 Olympics, which was my main goal this time."

Peter took the first British medal in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens with his partner Leon and more recently won gold in the 10 metre platform dive and synchronized dive with Leon at the Commonwealth Games Trials in Manchester last year, where he was given the title of British Champion.

The next step for Peter will be competing in the FINA Grand Prix in the USA this May.
