Waterfield still at the top of British Diving
 

OLYMPIC and Commonwealth diver Peter Waterfield put in a top performance in the Great Britain Diving Championships in Manchester recently (December 15 to 17) winning Gold and Silver medals.

The 25-year-old, who comes from Southampton and is a member of the city’s Diving Club, won Gold in the Men’s 10 metre Platform Dive with a score of 497.50 points, and Gold for the Men’s 10 metre Platform Synchronised Dive with his Olympic diving partner Leon Taylor, aged 29, from the City of Sheffield Diving Club.

Peter also won a Silver medal for the Men’s three metre Synchro with diver Blake Aldridge, aged 25, who is also from Southampton Diving Academy. The pair earned 736.74 points to gain the title.

He explained: “I performed better in the final than the prelims, I received some really good scores and I am pleased to come away British Champion. I am looking forward to going to the World Championships to do well and I hope to qualify for the Olympics in 2008.”

Peter and Leon, who earned an impressive 449.88 points for their six synchronised dives, will now travel to Melbourne for the FINA World Championships, which will take place in March 2007. This is the first of only two 2008 Olympic Games qualifying events.

The Great Britain Diving Championships took place at the Manchester Aquatic Centre from December 15 to 17, 2006.
