Armada Cup 2019
As many children were commencing their half term break, a group of 31 divers from Southampton Academy headed to Plymouth to compete in the 20th Armada Cup diving competition. The event saw divers compete over 4 days and included both individual and synchronised events. Southampton’s divers got off to a fantastic start with two of the youngest girls, Imogen Fitzsimmons and Natalie Barr taking the bronze in the under 13 synchro event. In the boys 14 – 16 years synchro Southampton’s Ethan Bennett diving with James West from Albatross Diving Club put in a very steady performance to clinch the silver medal. Dulcie Wilson was next up in the girls 14/15 years 1m event where she put in a beautifully consistent performance to finish in 5th place in the prelims and securing her spot in the final. She went on to finish in 4th place, missing out on a medal position by an agonising 0.1 of a point. Day two of the competition brought further consistent performances from Southampton divers, with a number making it through to the finals in their events. Ethan Bennett secured a place in the boys 14‐15 age group on the 1m and went on to finish 4th in a very close final.
