Impressive medal haul for Southampton at National Diving Championships
Southampton Diving Academy were ranked second in the medal table at the Swim England Diving National Age Group Championships 2017.
The club’s divers secured fourteen medals overall including four gold, three silver and seven bronze during the four day competition held last week at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield.
Standout performances for Southampton at the championships came from William Osbourne, Oliver Cazaly, Maya Kutty and Milly Batten, Reuben Brown and Bryn James.
Brown and James secured the club’s two individual gold medals. Brown’s came in the Boys’ Group B Platform in which he took the title with 229.85. James won the Boys’ Group D 3m with a total score of 179.45.
Osbourne secured a silver and two bronze medals. His silver medal came in the Boys’ Group A 1m Springboard event, in which he scored 278.80 to beat double gold medallist Connor West (Plymouth). His bronze medals came in the Boys’ Group A 3m and the Boys’ Group A Platform events. He scored 312.30 and 280.30 respectively.
Cazaly won a gold medal with diving partner Nathan Bull in the Boys C/D 1m Synchro, scoring 156.96, and then went on to secure silver in the Boys’ Group C 3m with 229.20 points.
Kutty and Batten both secured one gold and one bronze medal. Their gold medals were won as a pair in the Girls’ C/D 1m Synchro, beating club mates Olive Ullyatt and Dulcie Wilson by under two points. They topped the podium with 155.22 points.
Kutty’s bronze medal came in the Girls’ Group C Platform, in which she scored 215.35 and Batten’s in the Girls’ Group C 1m with 200.60.
Other medallists include Alexander Walton, Olive Ullyatt and Dulcie Wilson, and Nathan Bull.
