At the end of April two Junior Elite divers from the Southampton Diving Academy travelled to Dresden, Germany to represent Great Britain in the 4th Dresden Junior International Youth Meet.
Madeleine Angell and Sarah White joined top divers from across the Country to complete the GB Team that travelled to Germany.
For Madeleine it was her very first international, representing GB. Competing in the girls group B (14/15 years) platform event, her required dives went well, followed by her optional (harder) dives. Madeleine’s back two and half pike somersault off 10m was a little disappointing, but the next two dives were better and achieving a new Personal Best Score, Maddie won a place in the final in sixth place, out of twelve qualifiers. In the final Maddie remained composed and performed all her dives better, improving her back two and a half pike to maintain her sixth position.
“It was my very first international competition representing GB and so I was very excited to compete and gain new experiences.” Maddie explained “Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the week and I felt proud as an individual but also as a member of Southampton Diving Academy to represent my country.”
Team mate Sarah White was competing in the girls group A (16/18 Years) platform event. Sarah also made a good start with her required dives, scoring well and, with a particularly good handstand dive, she proceeded in to the finals in 8th place. In the final Sarah held her nerve and started this event with her best dive from the preliminary, she then went onto improve all her optional dives and surpassed her 8th place by finishing in the finals in 6th.
Overall, up against stiff competition, the Southampton girls on the British team put in some determined performances it was a great achievement to be asked to represent their Country.
