Friends of Southampton Diving Academy (FOSDA) is an organisation set up in order to support the divers and parents of Southampton Diving Academy, financially and practically and last weekend saw their latest ‘fun’ event – The Synchro Fun Dive!
64 members and family members took to the boards to win a synchro session with one of SDA’s Olympic 2012 divers – Chris Mears.
Competitors of all ages and diving levels took part, right from the lessons programme to the junior elite and adult lessons and all took to the boards to jump, dive, somersault or just ‘fall’. Some divers were in competitive mode right from the off, going all out to win that precious slot with The Olympian, whilst others dressed to impress. Some just enjoyed the chance to dive with their friends, siblings, or even parents and even a chance for one child to dive with their Grandma, Judith Bartlett. Judith herself is a FOSDA committee member. It was obvious to the families gathered to watch that this event had definitely lived up to its name of a FUN Synchro event.
This event was the brainwave of FOSDA committee member Vanessa Kerr who believes there is a need for these events, not only as a fund raiser, but also as a chance for the children to relax and enjoy this marvellous facility whilst raising vital funds to help support the clubs divers and their families.
Recently FOSDA has raised funds by organising a bag pack at the Decathalon Store nearby and has, in the past, held Christmas Discos and Summer BBQ’s for the children.
